| What you should know about mold……. * Mold, also referred to as fungi or mildew, are found indoors and outdoors and need moisture, food, and oxygen to grow. *Molds grow and come in different colors. * There is no practical way to eliminate all mold growth and mold spores in an indoor environment. * Mold has been found indoors floating through air and in settled dust and can travel great distances. * Indoor mold is most commonly found in bathrooms, basement walls, around windows, around plumbing fixtures, and areas of high humidity or cold spots to name a few. * Molds produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases toxic substances or chemicals. Exposure to these may cause allergic reactions to certain individuals. Molds can be dead or alive to cause these allergic reactions. * Some molds produce strong or unpleasant odors, known as mVOCs (microbial volatile organic compounds), which exposure has been linked to symptoms such as headaches, nasal irritation, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. * Chlorine bleach is not recommended for mold remediation, unless certain situations call for its’ use i.e., when individuals who are immune- compromised may be present. *Molds will not grow if the moisture problem is corrected.
